Eruptive History

There is data available for 3 confirmed Holocene eruptive periods.

1915 ± 40 years Confirmed Eruption (Submarine) VEI: 0

Episode 1 | Eruption (Submarine) Animal Farm lava flow
1915 ± 40 years - Unknown Evidence from Correlation: Magnetism
The Animal Farm lava flow was dated by magnetic paleointensity evidence at between 1880 and 1950 CE (Carlut and Kent, 2000). Sediment cover supports an age in this range, although the absence of activity in 1999 at a vigorous hydrothermal area seen in 1993 raises the possibility of a younger age (Sinton et al., 2002). The flow field has an estimated volume of 0.22 km3 (Sinton, et al., 2002).

Episode 1 | Eruption (Submarine) Southern South Hump lava flow
1860 (?) - Unknown Evidence from Correlation: Magnetism
A lava flow in the southern South Hump area was dated by magnetic paleointensity at about 1860 CE (Bowles et al., 2005).
